SkyWatch Friday: 3 Days of Music & Skies

For the 3-day 2009 National Folk Festival, about 120,000 people converged on Butte, Montana in the Northern Rockies--more than three times our normal population and about double the peak population of c. 1915. The festival began with a gorgeous, clear blue sky at the Original Gallows Frame (a mineyard converted into an ampitheatre):

Morning of Day Two, mare's tails filled the sky--a sure portent of weather to come:

Sure enough, Day Three came with rain beginning in early afternoon, though it did not seem to dampen the crowd's spirits at the dance tent:

Hope to see you at next year's National Folk Festival in Butte America!

  2. Each day brought different weather and different skies, ER. Loved that blue sky in the first picture--but the mare's tales in the 2nd one are pretty too.

Glad the rain didn't dampen the spirits of those at the festival.

  8. What a great series of sky shots, although I have to admit the mares tails are my favourite! Thanks for your kind comments, and I know what you are talking about when it comes to identifying plants...

  10. Well, I don't like crowds, (wow - 120,000!) - but it sure looks like a fun festival. (And my kind of music.)
Enjoyed your backpack hike and wildflower pics on previous post. I have yet to see the Bog Orchid this summer.

  11. You are the second SWF poster who wrote about the festival, that I have read so far. Tammie Lee went, too.

It does look fun, and that first sky shot is lovely.

I was hoping you had posted more wildflowers, and you did!
