Yep, a wolf. Just to be sure it wasn't an errant neighbor dog, MTD & I tracked it a mile or so, found a spot where it had bedded with another wolf or two for the night, and left this unmistakable (full of bones and fur) scat:
Later, Mrs Rover & I went to the holiday potluck at the Quarry Brewpub for another form of wild life. Little Brother A.J. participated in the uptown Butte ice sculpture event earlier that day and texted Mrs Rover to remind us to check out his work in front of the pub:
"Mug #138, EcoRover." Hmmm... if I could only get pub owner Chuck Schabel to fill that mug for the price of a pint!
After the potluck, more wildlife on display. Not sure who the artist was, but this sculpture of Moishe (from Where the Wild Things Are) was getting some attention:
Butte, America: Where the wild things are!
Love the bottom ice sculpture especially.
ReplyDeleteCool mug - literally.
ReplyDeleteMust've been exciting to track a wolf.
Yes, you can definitely see memories of its dinner~
ReplyDeleteWhen God gives you snow and ice...
Make ice sculptures ;o)
You do have some wild things. You left a comment about my garter snake post in WNY. Someone has been using poison to kill the voles as I find them. I suppose that it will take down some other things that eat the voles. I wish people were better educated..but then I don't think they would care of a dead snake or hawk..maybe one of the cats would wake them up....Michelle
ReplyDeleteJust an update: AJ won first prize in the youth division and an award in the People's Choice division! It helps that on a Saturday night, the Quarry Brewpub is a major social gathering place for families (yep--a kid friendly brew pub, with a play area, dogs welcome etc).
ReplyDeleteKids and dog welcome? My kind of place. That's true of most country Irish pubs as well. Congratulations to AJ!
ReplyDeleteReally cool place over there.
ReplyDeleteGood thing you put the glove out there for comparison. That's a huge pile of scat! Does the thought of the size and power of those animals ever make you feel a little uneasy while you're out skiing or hiking? We're in the buckle of the Bible Belt here, so famous local watering holes are not so prevalent. Lucky you. That mug of yours--what's the green stuff?
ReplyDeleteW2W, A.J. used green food coloring in water to fill the ice mugs--green beer is a big St Patrick's Day tradition here in the very-Irish city of Butte.
ReplyDeleteI seldom give the wolves, bears, or lions that populate this area a second thought. I do carry pepper spray when the bears are not hibernating. In these many years I've only been threatened by a grizzly once and charged by a black bear sow once.
I hate ice sculptures, specially this freaky creature on the last picture, awful.
