September, and the sunny cloudless days of July and August give way to cumulus waves of moister air, changing in time from a beamy sunrise (Walkerville, Montana):
To an evening wave of showers moving up the Clark Fork River Valley (looking west):
Bringing the inevitable rainbow (looking east):
Next day, clouds and blue sky combine at an aptly named hotel in Virginia City, Montana:
And highlight a towering bunch of hollihocks:
Dreamy shapes, here the Staypuft Marshmallow Man, march across the sky:
Evening comes again, the sun sets:
And the glowing gallows frames (mining headframe) of Butte, Montana stand tall against the night sky:

Gorgeous sunset shot. I also loved the marshmallow man. Thank you for sharing.
What a fabulous collection of shots! Ah, that's Montana -- my home for 16 years, still miss it!
Have a great weekend!
Sylvia
One photo better than the other!
I love the "beamy sunrise" a great way to say it!
The rain & rainbow one is another favorite...along with 'marshmallow man.'
This must be :cloud shape: weekend at skywatch!
all the best, Maria
This a good selection of sky shots. The marshmallow man was good, but oh, those hollyhocks!
I had a rainbow, too. But mine wasn't a new one.
Wonderful, aren't we lucky, you with the Rockies and me with the Sierra Nevada; both with beautiful skies.
I think Montana has wonderful skies for watching; northern Idaho comes in a close second. I like your "day in the life" story.
P S Thanks for visiting my site! It could have been used with a downrigger, I cropped out the end of ours to focus on the lure and reflection!
Now that is a wonderful collection of skywatch snaps.
ER, thank you for your response to my mask post earlier today. I removed it, but wanted you to know I appreciate your thoughtful comments.
:)
Well, if I wasn't in a good mood before seeing the Staypuft Marshmallow Man, I certainly am now! :-) Cherish those "inevitable" rainbows ... all I've ever been able to photograph has been just the hint of one, though I've seen my share. Love the sunset shot after the Staypuft cloud, and the glowing mining frames qualify as modern art.
A really delightful series. We haven't glimpsed too many rainbows this summer; when it rains it pours!
Wonderful cloud formations.
What a darn full day you must of had.
All beautiful shots. I love rainbows, and yours is a good one. Staypuft marshmallow man made me smile. The hollyhocks agains the sky are lovely. The glowing mining gallows is pretty cool.
Superb images, wonderful SWF post.
simply beautifully captured shots....lovely!
Great skyes
I loved them all but the landscape under the rainbow is just so very beautiful.
Too many great pictures to choose from, but maybe those hollyhocks are my favorite.
Beautiful photos and skies. I love the hollyhock photo.
beautiful sky shots. I especially love the one with the flowers.
Thanks for the kind word on my blog regarding my dog. I understand your anger and the PTSD. I'm feeling the same way right now. We did report the other dog but nothing will happen but the owners getting a ticket. I'll vent on my blog the details of that later.
Very nice. Looking forward to a flying Montana drive thru on our way to Portand and Vancouver Island. Maybe a steak in Lolo before heading over the Pass.
That's a very cool headframe photo! I love that pink glow in the sky, too.
Beautiful Montana skies, ER. I love the one with the rainbow. BUT--they are all SUPER---including the Holly Hawks.
Betsy
